Join us to learn more about how these emergent technologies are being harnessed to drive innovation, creativity and mindfulness.
Downe House parent Dr Gino Yu received his BS and PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California at Berkeley and became Associate Professor and Director of Digital Entertainment and Game Development at the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) from which he recently retired. He is co-founder of the PolyU M-Lab, a commercially oriented digital entertainment laboratory and was instrumental in establishing multimedia initiatives in the Engineering School at the University of Southern California. His research spans VLSI CAD, Digital Entertainment, and Consciousness (phenomenology and neurophysiology). Gino is a sought-after speaker on Blockchain and other emergent technologies and serves as an advisor to several leading-edge endeavours including SingularityNET, and Hanson Robotics.
His son Chinat Yu is a researcher, educator, and founder exploring how AI and hands-on learning can empower the next generation of builders. He holds a master’s degree in Learning, Design and Technology from Stanford University, and his work centres on hackathons, generative AI, and entrepreneurial education as powerful tools for student growth. Previously, Chinat conducted research in generative AI and human-AI collaboration at Microsoft Research. Today, he designs programs and tools that help students learn by building – often through hackathon-inspired, project-based experiences. He is also the founder of Quest2Learn, a mixed reality platform for science education, and has spoken at events such as AIxEducation and the Johns Hopkins DELTA Symposium, sharing how AI is reshaping how we learn and create.
They will talk about some of the exciting uses of AI and other emergent technologies in the development of new initiatives, both within education and elsewhere. Chinat will share how AI can serve as a creative partner in education – fuelling student agency, innovation, and meaningful learning experiences.
It promises to be a fascinating evening and we invite members and friends of the DH community to join us for this event by reserving a seat.
