The girls became very proficient winning several trophies at Bisley and elsewhere. An added attraction for them was the magnificent tea provided for the girls by Colonel Leicester 'Nunky'. He died in 1949, but rifle shooting continued with Mr Piper from Cold Ash Rifle Club which used shooting butts constructed on the local recreation ground.
Later, during the 1980's, clay pigeon shooting was introduced. Again the girls were most successful with a young team winning an award at a national students competition where they competed with university teams. They were the only all girls' team in the competition.
